Music glides in between compositions – through time, in improvisations that take over the space. The church turns into an enormous reverberating drone hall.

The medieval songs («Zeitfalten») originate from the centuries during which the cathedral was built. Six cathedral organs make an appearance, from the oldest, reconstructed in 1450, through to the great one from 1729 and a experimental wind-dynamic organ all fill the space in broad improvisations.

At times organ sounds mix with a modern electronic instrument, the Ondes Martenot, developed in 1928 by the musician and inventor Maurice Martenot. It was made known primarily by Olivier Messiaen who liked to use it to produce his ethereal, celestial sounds. At times, one believes to hear an angel’s voice. One of his early works: «Fête des belles eaux», composed in 1937 for the World Fair in Paris was performed to fireworks in a «son et lumière» spectacle on the banks of the Seine. The titles therefore correspond: «Premières fusées – L’eau – Les fusées – L’eau à son maximum de hauteur – Superposition de l’eau et des fusées – Feu d’artifice final».

In between, the six organs of the Münster make an appearance; from the oldest, obviously reconstructed one from 1450, to the big one from 1729 and the experimental, wind dynamic organ, that allows the musician to play microtones. Six musicians from the Paris Conservatoire participate in the improvisations and take up the room.

And who knows what will happen during the ghostly hour…
