Interludes
Opening Party

Different and bizarre sound spectra emerge from the ensemble hornroh modern alphorn quartet and Circle Flute. Circulating sounds exude an unusual hint of untimeliness.

The love for timely and untimely interludes has remained from last year’s festival, where ghostly light constantly flickered through the programme. That is why we have invited Jürg Kienberger as Interlude in Residence. And so, two extraordinary ensembles will also interlude on this opening evening. The Basel hornroh modern alphorn quartet, who has taken our alpine instrument all over the world, opens up and plays completely different (or quasi-alpine) time dimensions.

To open our ears and pore, immerse us in the sound, to be touched by new sounds and noise which surprise and inspire: that is what Circle Flute invites us to do. In 2016 an instrument was developed which is made of four interconnected flutes, played by four musicians. The sound surrounds the listeners, and this intimate performance context enables a change of perspectives and an intense listening experience, especially as the musicians intuitively improvise in reaction to the space. Circle Flute is also performing on Saturday afternoon at 18:30 on the Münster Square.
An event by Musikfestival Bern and Circle Flute in collaboration with Dampfzentrale Bern.
